The Harvard Westlake Jazz Explorers were founded 20 years ago at Harvard School for boys as the top combo in the jazz program, and has continued throughout the last 2 decades playing gigs and concerts year round. Each year members of the jazz program at Harvard-Westlake must audition to be accepted into the group, which generally consists of 5 or 6 members. Conceived as a student-run group, our faculty advisor and teacher, Shawn Costantino, takes an active role in rehearsals, etc. Costantino, a professional saxophonist, teaches all levels of jazz performance at Harvard-Westlake's Upper School. He earned degrees from The University of Miami, DePaul University, and has started a doctoral degree at the University of Northern Colorado.
Notable gigs so far with this year's Explorers include the Lotus Festival in Echo Park as well as the Juvenile Diabetes run/walk fund raiser at dodger stadium, as well as private functions and parties.
